On Thursday, October 23, 2014, Goetz Middle School held a parent Literacy game night entitled, “The Power of Words”.  This fun filled evening focused on academic vocabulary and the importance of academic vocabulary.  There was a short power point presentation about the latest research on vocabulary development, as well suggestions on how to improve and expand vocabulary.  After the presentation, the students and parents engaged in a plethora of word games.  This exciting evening concluded with a raffle of word centered books: Find-a-Word books, Crossword Puzzle books, and more.  Before bidding adieu, there were light refreshments served, which were sponsored by our Jackson PRIDE in Education. This night was orchestrated by Mrs. Molitores, Reading Specialist, and assisted by many teachers.  A fun time was had by all!

From the Principal

Greetings from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year.  The new year has started on a positive note.  Students quickly acclimated to a new schedule and new teachers.  I encourage you to continue your partnership with the Goetz Family. Become more informed by attending our Back to School Nights on Monday, September 22th for the sixth grade parents and on Tuesday, September 30th for seventh and eighth grade parents.

One of my goals is to see that parents and guardians, like the students themselves, feel at home at Goetz.  To accomplish this, I will continue monthly Coffee with the Principal meetings during school hours, on various days of the week. The Goetz website is regularly updated. Check it often for information about events and activities. Review your child’s copy of the Goetz Student Handbook.  It thoroughly explains the rules and regulations of our school.  By reading it along with your child, you will have a better understanding of what to expect.  Make use of the class pages link to see assignments and activities your child’s teachers are planning. Check Portal regularly to keep abreast of your child’s progress in his/her class.

Please consider joining the PTN at Goetz. This organization provides you with an opportunity to stay involved and informed.

I want to assure you that we will do our best to help your child experience academic, social, and emotional growth.  With your help and cooperation, this promises to be an excellent school year.
